Together

La relazione fra l’uomo, l’ambiente e il tempo, e’ il  tema affrontato da Luisa Rabbia nella sua personale presso la Galleria Rossana Ciocca di Milano.

Con l’opera Together,  grande lavoro in porcellana che da anche il titolo alla mostra, l’artista analizza come l’inesorabile scorrere del tempo e l’azione dell’uomo lascino dei segni che modificano il rapporto fra le cose: lo stesso accade nella porcellana colata dall'artista in fase di lavorazione come se fosse colore liquido che  durante l'asciugatura comincia a vivere e spaccarsi come terra al sole. I colori, nero e bianco, dividono la parete in due superfici contrapponendo la luce al buio, il sopra al sotto, in cui forme apparentemente indipendenti si scoprono collegate fra di loro. Linee su linee, una in relazione con l'altra, svelano con la loro trama come ogni cosa sia collegata e ogni nostra azione determini la successiva. In un lento dialogo con lo scorrere del tempo l’artista disegna gli anelli di crescita di un albero che cambiano posizione e assumono la forma di un cervello o di un intestino.

Nel video, Al di la' dell'alba, un denso fiume rosso  scorre di fronte ad un silenzioso paesaggio di sassi e pietre. L’acqua che nel suo viaggio si e’ caricata di violenza sembra avere sommerso tutto e continuare il suo percorso all’infinito. 

Chiude la mostra una scultura in cartapesta in cui il legame fra le cose, e la violenza della separazione, prendono forma in un bambino deposto su un mucchio di radici che come un cordone ombelicale sembrano nutrirlo ma allo stesso tempo soffocarlo.

Attraverso il disegno, mezzo scelto dall’artista per rappresentare la realta che ci circonda in quanto si sviluppa in tempo reale e senza un intento prestabilito, Luisa Rabbia ci racconta stati mentali e psicologici dell’uomo oggi. Le sue sculture sono disegni che si sviluppano in uno spazio tridimensionale proprio come se venissero disegnate su un foglio permettendo allo spettatore di entrare e di vivere il silenzio dello spazio vuoto.

 

Luisa Rabbia vive e lavora a  New York dal 2000.

Fra le collettive, nel 2007: Apocalittici e Integrati al Maxxi Museo a Roma a cura di Paolo Colombo; Italy made in art: Now al Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art a cura di Achille Bonito Oliva.

Sempre nel 2007 e’ stata residente presso l’Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum di Boston, nel quale seguira’ una mostra personale nel 2008.

In programma per il 2008 c’e’ una personale a Boston presso Arts Libri, a cura di Mario Diacono.

Nell’Ottobre 2007 Intramoenia Extra Art, Castelli del Salento,  a cura di Achille Bonito Oliva.

Luisa Rabbia's new project, for her solo show at Rossana Ciocca Gallery in Milan, explores the relationship between human being, environment and time.

With Together, a wide porcelain work after which the exhibition is named, the artist analyses how the inexorable passing of time and the action of human beings leave marks that alter the relationship between things: the same happens with the porcelain cast by the artist in the working process, as if it were liquid colour that, while drying, begins to live and crack as earth under the sun. The colours, black and white, divide the wall into two parts opposing light to dark, up to down, where apparently independent shapes find themselves linked to each other. Lines by lines, one linked to another, reveal with their weave how everything is linked and every action of ours brings about the next one. In a slow dialogue with the passing of time, the artist draws the year-rings of a tree which, changing position, take the form of a brain, then of a stomach. 

In the video, Al di la' dell'alba (Behind Sunrise), a thick red river flows in front of a soundless landscape of stones and rocks. Its water, loaded down with violence in its run, seems to have drowned everything and flows endlessly on.

A second papier maché sculpture closes the exhibition, representing a child laid on a heap of roots which, like an umbilical cord, seem to feed him and suffocate him at the same time. 

Through the drawing, used by the artist in order to represent the reality that surrounds us, since it evolves in real time and without a  fixed target, Luisa Rabbia tells us about the mental and psychological condition of today’s human being. Her sculptures are drawings developing in a three dimensional space as if drawn on a sheet allowing the visitor to enter, and live the silence of the empty space.

 

Luisa Rabbia lives and works in New York since 2000.

Her latest projects include the following solo exhibitions: Massimo Audiello, New York (2007), Marta Cervera, Madrid (2006), Giorgio Persano, Turin (2005).

2007 Group Shows: at Maxxi Museum in Rome Apocalittici e Integrati by Paolo Colombo; at Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art, Italy made in Art:Now by Achille Bonito Oliva.

In 2007 she was also artist in Residence at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum of Boston, where in 2008 there’ll be her one-man show.

Another solo exhibition during 2008 at Arts Libri in Boston, by Mario Diacono.

In October 2007 her work  will be in the group show Intramoenia Extra Arts, Castelli of Salento, by Achille Bonito Oliva.
